Kent Burbank

Kent Burbank has worked for more than two decades in the field of social and human services, including working with the victims of violence, the LGBTQ+ community, people with disabilities, and refugees and migrants. He has master’s degrees both in social work from the University of Chicago and in divinity from Meadville/Lombard Theological School. Kent is currently the Director of Constituent Services for the Southern Arizona Office of Governor Katie Hobbs. Previously, Kent was a full-time faculty member in the Social Services Department at Pima Community College. Prior to joining Pima College, he served as the Director of Victim Services at the Pima County Attorney’s Office, providing crisis intervention and criminal justice advocacy to thousands of crime victims each year. From 2001 to 2007, Kent was the Executive Director of Wingspan, formerly Southern Arizona’s LGBTQ+ Community Center. 

 

Kent has been active in community organizations including serving on the boards of Planned Parenthood Advocates of Arizona, the Southern Arizona Hate Crimes Task Force, Arizona Coalition for Victim Services, Child and Family Resources, and most recently, the LGBTQ+ Alliance Fund of the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona.  Kent has been with his partner, Vicente Talanquer, for 28 years, and they have two grown children, Martín and Daniel.  Kent and Vicente and were married in Iowa in July of 2013 and were plaintiffs in the Lambda Legal marriage equality lawsuit in Arizona in 2014.  In his spare time, Kent enjoys traveling, hiking, and camping.
